Romeo and Juliet Act I

Battlefield by Jordan Sparks lyrics interpretation

Stanza 1: Don’t try to explain your mind
I know what’s happening here
one minute its love
and suddenly it’s like a battle-field

Interpretation: Don’t explain, I know what’s going on one minute we are in love and then we’re arguing.
Stanza 2: One word turns into a war
why is it the smallest things that tear us down
my worlds nothing when you don’t
I’m not here without a shield
can’t go back now

Interpretation: One thing can start a fight. Why does something so small tear us apart? I’m here and prepared to fight. There’s no going back now.
Stanza 3: Both hands tied behind my back with nothing
Oh No, these times when we climb so fast to fall again
why we got to fall for it now
I never meant to start a war
you know I never wanna hurt you
don’t even know what we’re fighting for

Interpretation: I’m trying not to fight but, these days we fall in love to fall apart. Why do we have to fall for it? I never meant to start a fight. You know I never meant to hurt you and we don’t even remember why we’re fighting.
Chorus: Why does love always feel like a battlefield, a battlefield, a battlefield (x2)
Why does love always feel like…

Interpretation: why does being in love always feel like an argument waiting to happen?
Stanza 5: Can’t swallow our pride,
neither one of us wanna raise that flag
if we can’t surrender then we both gonna loose what we had, oh no

Interpretation: can’t give up our pride. Neither of us want to surrender but if we don’t we’re going to loose each other.
Stanza 6: same as stanza 3
Chorus
Stanza 8: I guess you better go and get your armor, (get your armor) get your armor (x2)
I guess you better go and get your…..

Interpretation: you better prepare for a war
Stanza 9: we could pretend we are friends tonight
and in the morning we’ll wake up and we’ll be alright
cause baby we don’t have to fight
and I don’t want this love to feel like…

Interpretation: we could pretend everything’s alright and tomorrow everything will be ok because we don’t have to fight. I don’t want love to feel like this.
Chorus
Stanza 11: same as stanza 8
Stanza 12: I never meant to start a war
you know I never wanna hurt you
don’t even know what we’re fighting for

what we’re fighting for (x2)

Love song response
  1. The song is that love feels like a battlefield because couples seem to always be in a fight or argument. The song says that the smallest things can make people start a “war” or tear the relationship apart. The title “Battlefield” fits to what they song’s trying to say because battlefields are where wars are held. The song also says “you better go and get your armor” meaning you better be prepared for a fight.
  2. I somewhat agree with what the lyrics are saying. Love can sometimes seem like it’s not worth it because all it’s going to do is bring on more conflict. Other times it can feel like it’s the most valuable thing in the world. Also you don’t hear in the media about happy couples. You always hear about couples who are having trouble with their relationship. I know several people who can relate to what the song is saying.
  3. I noticed that the fourth line in the first and second stanza both rhyme. Other than that everything is basically separate. The song’s genre is pop but it can also be considered R&B. The genre does fit the lyrics and the statement because the contemporary lyrics are compatible with the pop music.

Romeo and Juliet Act II

Advice Letter

Dear Juliet,
I read your letter and understand why you need advice. Since you and Romeo are in love with each other and truly want to be together; I believe that you and Romeo should tell your families that you have fallen in love and want to get married. I have heard some people say that honesty is the best policy. Most people I have talked to have said that if they did something that another person doesn’t like, telling them made things go smoother than the person finding out on their own. If you do tell your parents I’m sure they will be mad at first but if they love you they should respect your decisions.
I also think that you and Romeo should get to know each other before making such an important decision, like getting married. I have observed many relationships in my life that are rushed and most of them didn’t end the way everyone hoped they would. You may discover that Romeo is not the person you thought he was. No one can know another person by just looking at for the first time. Just like you didn’t know Romeo was part of the family that your family despises by seeing him for the first time. You may also learn things about Romeo that you don’t like.
Some other possible outcomes if you do take my advice are both your parents may understand that love is strong enough to pull the worst of enemies together. Therefore, allowing you to marry Romeo. If they allow you to marry Romeo you could also get to know him better before getting married to him. Although the situation may end up with both your parents and Romeo’s parents getting angry and refusing to let you two be married. They may also start a fight which would in return, anger the Prince and get both the heads of households killed.
If you don’t take my advice and get married to Romeo without your parents or Romeo’s parents knowing; and you not knowing much about Romeo. The whole situation could get a lot more complicated. Your parents may be out to kill Romeo and Romeo’s parents may be out to kill you. Fights may break out all over between your family and servants and Romeo’s family and servants. The Prince may then get very angry and kill both of the household’s heads. Romeo could turn out to be the total opposite of what you want him to be.
Clearly, you have a very difficult decision ahead of you. Telling your parents would take a lot of courage and may create a problem but, not telling them may create a bigger one. I wish both you and Romeo luck in you decision.

Sincerely,
Marana Czap

Romeo and Juliet Act III

" Is there no pity sitting in the clouds that sees into the bottom of my grief? O sweet my mother, cast me not away! Delay this marriage for a month, a week;or if you do not, make the bridal bed in that dim monument where Tybalt lies."-Juliet III, v

Two killed in Verona
By Marana Czap

Two men were killed on the streets in Verona. There is one witness to the crime and may have a biased opinion on the situation. Many are in conflict over what should be done and what the punishment should be. Prince Esclaus has informed us that because of the fight a Montague has been BANISHED. Some say this punishment is way too harsh while others say that more should be done because the prince’s cousin was killed.

This afternoon on a street adjacent to the Capulet homestead, Tybalt Capulet, nephew of Lord and Lady Capulet, and Mercutio Escalus, Cousin of the Prince, were both stabbed and killed. The only known witness to the tragedy is Benvolio Montague, nephew of Lord and Lady Montague and cousin of the killer. The killer, Romeo Montague, allegedly only killed Tybalt Capulet in revenge for Mercutio Escalus’s death. Allegedly one of the victims, Mercutio Escalus started the fight with Tybalt Capulet when, he dared him to start a fight.

The witness, Benvolio Montague, Told us his account of what had happened. He stated “Ay, ‘tis true that Romeo hath slain Tybalt”. Romeo Montague had pleaded with Tybalt Capulet against fighting and mentioned leaving in a peaceful manner. When Mercutio Escalus and Tybalt Capulet started fighting Romeo Montague tried to stop them but, couldn’t stop Tybalt Capulet from stabbing Mercutio Escalus. Upon seeing Mercutio Escalus’s fatal wound, Romeo Montague, without a second thought, stabbed Tybalt Capulet as he tried to flee the scene.

After hearing the witness’s account Prince Escalus made up his mind. He sentenced Romeo Montague to immediate exile and banishment. The punishment was for having brought one of his relatives into the fight. Also if Romeo Montague is seen in the walls of Verona again he should be killed on the spot. Whoever the doer is of this is won’t even have charges put against him. The tragic events of today have resulted with two dead and one banished.

Romeo and Juliet Act IV

Parents vs. Teenagers

Parents and Teenagers have been stereotyped to fight about rules forever. In our entertainment, such as TV shows and movies, we see teenagers and their parents fighting over rules. Most of the rules are made to protect the teenagers. Others are made to show that the teenagers respect their parents. Are all the rules fair to both the teenagers and the parents? Some may think so but, others may not.
First, I should tell you that in my house roles are mixed up. By this I mean that my mother acts more like a teenager than a parent and I act like the adult in the family. As you can see, I don’t have a lot of rules in my house but the ones I do have are serious. I think the strictest rule in my house is about my grades. I have to have A’s and B’s or I’ll be in trouble. If I have anything lower than a B than I would probably be grounded, get my cell and MP3 player taken away, and I wouldn’t be able to use the house phone until I got my grade up. I know this may sound harsh but, I don’t think so. I understand that the grades I get in school now help determine my future.
In my house, there are two rules I really don’t like. The first one is I have to do my chores. I don’t like doing my chores because they take forever and just when it feels I am almost done, I get more piled on me. It always seems like I’m the only one doing the chores while everyone else is doing what they want. So, I simply don’t do my chores. Sure, I get yelled at all the time by my mother and by my Nana. I don’t do my chores because I know I can live with the consequences. If I get something taken away it doesn’t bother me because there are other things to do.
The other rule that I don’t like is that I am not allowed to wear jeans to church. This rule I can not stand because I don’t think God really cares what you wear to church. I believe that it only matters that you’re at church in the first place. This rule I believe wasn’t made to protect me, it was most likely made to show that I respect my mom. I do respect my mom I just wish she wouldn’t have me show it in such a silly way. If I were to try to wear jeans to church I would get sent back up stairs to change until I wasn’t wearing jeans anymore. (This would take a long time because I have so many clothes!)

When my mom was younger she had more rules than I do now. She had to get A’s and B’s or she would get grounded. She had to do her chores every night before she went to bed or she would get woken up at 2 am to do them then. Last but not least, if she wanted to go over to a friend’s house my Nana and Popi would have to meet her friend’s parents. If Nana and Popi didn’t like their parents then she couldn’t go over to their house.
My mom had rules that were the same as mine like, our grades. I think my mom had worse punishments than I do now. Some of which I don’t think are very fair to either the parents or the teenagers. In my point of view, not all rules are fair to both the parents and the teenagers. Some of the rules are made to protect the teenagers and others are for respect. No matter what we do to try to not fight there are always going to be different opinions on what’s right and what’s not. Parents are always going to have rules for their children.

Romeo and Juliet Act V

"A glooming peace this morning with it brings the sun for sorrow will not show his head. Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things; some shall be pardoned and some shall be punished; for never a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo." -Prince Escalus V,iii

Romeo and Juliet II
In the town of Mantua, ten years after Romeo and Juliet leave Verona, Juliet had twins and had another child on the way. The twins are both boys with names of Caperio and Monty. Romeo, Juliet, and their children are as happy as happy can be when unexpectedly; Lord Montague, Lord and Lady Capulet, and the Nurse arrive in Mantua because of the drought in Verona. The Montagues and the Capulets are still in a feud but, are less of enemies.

Juliet is on her way to church when, she encounters the Nurse. At first, the nurse doesn’t recognize Juliet but, when she does she is so shocked she started screaming. Juliet tells the nurse all about how the Friar helped Romeo and her. The nurse isn’t mad but, instead upset that Juliet didn’t tell her about the plan. The nurse explains that there is a drought in Verona and that both Lord and Lady Capulet are in Mantua. The Nurse tells Juliet that Lady Montague died a few years back with pestilence. She explains the situation with the feud and that it isn’t as intense as it was.

Juliet tells the nurse about her twins and that she has another child on the way. The nurse was excited about her children and wants to meet the twins. They both say their goodbyes and go on their way. Being the blabber mouth she is, the nurse accidentally tells the Capulets that Juliet is still alive. Lord Capulet then demands to see her.

A few streets over, Lord Montague hears that Juliet is still alive. He decides he should go see what is going on. When both Montague and Capulet arrive at the house where Romeo and Juliet live they see each other. Without another word, they start to fight but, then Romeo and Juliet run outside with their twins to break up the fight.

Romeo and Juliet explain the situation and that the Friar helped them. Montague and Capulet are furious but, when they look at the fear in their grandchildren’s eyes they mellow out. In the end, Capulet and Montague forgive each other. They put their forces together and got the Friar put in jail for what he did. Romeo and Juliet later have their third and final baby who was named Harmony.
